Day 3, Beyond Layers Six Word Memoir

Beauty 'Photomontage'

I was recently asked (second hand request) to give a presentation on how I create my layered photo works...

'Beauty' is an example (simple) to illustrate the steps.

The imagery I tried to evoke was a reflection of the statue's symbolism and what she meant for me. Created as a welcoming figure (but not really knowing this consciously at the time of the photograph); I added the warmth of the orange-red roses, with the almost rising up effect as if she were spreading open her palms and sharing the heat from below her feet...the texture layer with the word embedded "Beauty" was in the right place at the right time, don't you think?

Essentially the image is comprised of layers of images composited one atop the other and blended together using various blend modes in Photoshop. The 'grain' or textured layer is usually on the top. A variation to this might occur when the layer is below but the upper most layers are erased to reveal the texture below.

This is my first MMM challenge piece in some time! I was determined to get a little something completed. This Rolodex card (my newest addiction) is layered with map paper, gesso, a gel medium transfer little Tessa from PID (that I had issues with) and glitzed at the left side with micro beads and embossing powder. A blue bird transfer, ribbon and a paper flower with the word fly and inked edges.

I created this card for a special lady, Karen, who has lost her mum. I hope that she finds some comfort when she sees stars. Also, I would love to share with you the source of the magnificent star I didn't really focus on the bow here ~ however it is a lovely shade of peachy pink and I think this is a special color for my friend!

The Tuesday Created Byhand challenge is for fabric, I used Isabella collage sheet 161 from Paper Imagery Designs! I transferred her to a piece of cloth using gel medium and added some ink to the background. Decorated with white rub on transfers from Stampin' Up and a little German scrap butterfly and vintage ribbon.

I don't seem to go a whole day without creating something, anything, of late! This is a wonderful feeling and it is good to know that although I am not routinely working on large pieces.......every now and then I find I am blessed with inspiration and this makes me happy! I have taken a few mixed media & drawing art classes from my (area) local artists and Paulette Insall (net, Oregon) and the one continuous thread from all of them ~ don't overthink things, don't beat yourself up, and above all else, just be you! Like I said ~ happy!
